DSCS SEASON OPENING EVENT - Meet and Greet @ The Viking Museum
On September 29, we held the inaugural "Meet and Greet" event for the forthcoming season 2022-2023 hosted by The Viking Museum in Djurgården, a museum devoted to the Viking Age. Our newly elected president, Wendell Sanchez (Dominican Republic), and his executive committee were thrilled to welcome new members and many old friends back after the summer break.
The DSCS expressed gratitude to former diplomat Angelika Gawell, booking and event organiser of The Viking Museum. She is the first recipient of the finely created and personalised glass heart souvenir that was crafted by Pris Huset, an established house of premium awards and trophies in Stockholm. It stands for our affection and gratitude for everyone who has welcomed our club into their homes and will do so in the future for special occasions. By doing this, we expect that others will soon follow and that the keepsake will have a significant impact on them.
Following the "meet and greet," we had a fika at the Glöd (Swedish for glow) restaurant, which has a view of Stockholm's islet and serves a variety of traditional and modern Nordic foods as part of its midday daily specials menu.
The museum's tour guide, Aaron, who can be reached at "amerginleathercraft@gmail.com," was funny and entertaining as he told us enthralling tales, explained why the ship had a dragon's head on the bow, and made light of the period's hygienic practises. Some of us ventured on the risky Ragnfrid's Saga Ride at the Viking Museum, where you get to journey with the Viking Harald over Europe in the tenth century. He is best known as Hardrada meaning ‘tough ruler’ and could be “the last great Viking.”
